On Thursday & Friday, April 26-27, 2007 a United State Embassy Consular officer traveled to the Crimea as part of the consular outreach program for Ukraine. The consular officer held a press conference in Simpheropol on Thursday with several print journalists and one local TV station at the regional press club. During the 60 minute press conference, the consular officer explained many of the changes and improvements to consular services for Ukrainians visiting the United State's Embassy in Kyiv, including the recently launched call center. Following the press conference, the consular officer visited a "Window on America" library in Simpheropol and spoke with an audience of over 50 students about exchange programs, student visas and opportunities to visit the United States through the popular "Summer Work and Travel" program.
The following morning, the consular officer held American Citizen Services hours in Sevastopol to provide consular services, such as passport renewal and notary services, for American Citizens living in the Crimea. Later that day, the consular officer met with representatives from local maritime crewing agencies to discuss how the new call center schedules sailor visas. Finally, the consular officer visited an IATP center at a children's library in Sevastopol to talk a group of 40 high-school aged students about life in the United States and the work of a diplomat. |
