Consul General: Landon Taylor

Welcome to the U.S. Embassy Consular Section. The Consular Section is staffed by American Foreign Service Officers and a staff of both Ukrainian and American citizens who can help you with a variety of questions concerning the issuance of U.S. Visas.

Important information

Please note that the Consular Section will be closed to the public on April 29-30. The Drop Box application procedure will also be unavailable on Wednesday, April 30, but will resume the following week.

What is a visa?A visa is issued by a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. A visa entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission. It does not guarantee entry. An immigration inspector at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States and their length of stay.
Who needs a visa?Ukrainian citizens, like citizens of many countries, require a visa to enter the United States, unless they qualify under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Types of visasNon-Immigrant Visas are for people with permanent residence outside the United States, but who wish to go to the U.S. on a temporary basis - for tourism, business, medical treatment, temporary work, or study.

Immigrant Visas are required by anyone seeking to take up indefinite or permanent residence in the United States. Upon entry into the United States, an immigrant visa holder is processed for a Permanent Resident Card (I-551), commonly known as a Green Card. For more information on U.S. visas, visit www.unitedstatesvisas.gov, an official source of information about U.S. visa policy and procedures.
Refugee petitionsAll refugee petitions for residents of Ukraine are processed through the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia.
Diversity Visa LotteryThe Congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
