Biotechnology Is 'Greener' Than You Think
Val Giddings, Ph.D., an expert in biotechnology, visited Ukraine this week at the invitation of the Ministry of Economy to discuss how biotechnology might be used in Ukraine to help produce more food at less cost and with fewer environmental impacts. U.S. Embassy Warns Visa Applicants of Fraud
Vice Consul Lewis Gitter takes a few moments to warn visa applicants of fraudulent companies working in Ukraine to take advantage of visa applicants. He discusses the most common types of fraud, including guaranteeing the issuance of a U.S. visa, selling packets of fake documents, and encouraging applicants to apply for the wrong type of visa. He emphasizes that all of these practices can hinder the visa applicant from ever getting a visa, and that NO company has a relationship to the Embassy or can help visa applicants get a visa. U.S. Ambassador Inaugurates Biosafety Equipment
On January 28th at the Central Sanitary Epidemiological Station (SES) in Kyiv U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, William B. Taylor held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the diagnostic and biosafety equipment provided by the United States as part of the Biological Threat Reduction Program between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The ceremony celebrated the installation of state-of-the-art epidemiological monitoring station equipment at the Central SES. The DoD is also financing building improvements to upgrade the ventilation and fire safety systems. Dobry Den. I'm Bill Taylor, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine. From all the people in the United States to all the people in Ukraine, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2007 has been a great year for Ukraine and for relations between the United States and Ukraine and I look forward to an even better year in 2008. April 22, 2007Podcast: The United States Celebrates Earth Day Thirty-seven years ago on the occasion of the first Earth Day the environment in the United States was bad and getting worse. The book Silent Spring had just exposed the dangers of pesticides to American wildlife. The badly polluted Cuyahoga River in Ohio was literally on fire, and in some cities air pollution was so bad residents changed their shirts twice a day. Later that year, President Richard Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency and now thirty-seven years later, America has made significant progress combating pollution and safeguarding our natural resources. U.S. Embassy Begins Podcasting As Ukraine becomes increasingly 'wired,' the U.S. Embassy is making every effort to keep our website on the cutting edge so that Ukrainians will continue to look to the site as an information source about the United States. Therefore, we have begun broadcasting podcasts on our website. These podcasts will feature U.S. Embassy officials who will discuss U.S. Foreign Policy as it relates to Ukraine, U.S. Culture and U.S. Holidays. Ambassador William B. Taylor will personally record a podcast once a month, with other Embassy officials recording podcasts in the intervening weeks.
