U.S. AMBASSADOR TO INAUGURATE BIOSAFETY EQUIPMENT

On Monday, January 28, at 11:30 a.m., U.S. Ambassador William B. Taylor will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Central Sanitary Epidemiological Station (SES) in Kyiv to dedicate the diagnostic and biosafety equipment provided by the United States of America as part of the Biological Threat Reduction Program.

Since 2005, the U.S. Department of Defense has worked closely with the Ministry of Health to enhance Ukraine's ability to detect, diagnose and respond to infectious disease outbreaks, such as Avian Influenza, rapidly, safely and accurately. This donation will complement similar equipment already provided by the U.S. Department of Defense to the Central Veterinary Laboratory in Kyiv and the Academy of Agrarian Science’s Institute of Experimental Clinical Veterinary Medicine in Kharkiv.

Press are invited to attend the ribbon cutting, which will be followed by a tour of the facility and a brief press conference. Journalists interested in attending should contact Dr. Victor Svita (417-3558) or Dr. Lyudmyla Tretyakova (425-1522) at the Central SES to register. The address of the Central SES is 41 Yarslovska.
