Press and Information > Press Release Archive – August 16, 2004 U.S. SENATORS TO VISIT UKRAINE United States Senator John McCain (Republican - Arizona) will lead a congressional delegation on a three-day visit to Ukraine August 18-20. Other members of the delegation are Senators Susan Collins (Republican – Maine), Lindsey Graham (Republican – South Carolina), and John Sununu (Republican – New Hampshire), along with Senate staff and military escorts. The visit is part of a regional trip that also includes stops in Latvia, Estonia, Norway and Iceland. The delegation will meet with senior Ukrainian officials and other leading members of Ukrainian political life in Kyiv and Crimea to discuss U.S.–Ukrainian relations and current affairs in Ukraine. Members of the delegation are particularly interested in learning more about efforts to guarantee free, fair and open elections in the upcoming presidential contest in Ukraine. Senator McCain and his colleagues will hold a press conference at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18 at the Residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, 5 Pokrovska, Podil. Journalists who wish to attend should contact the Information Section of the U. S. Embassy at 490-4090 or 490-4129 in order to be accredited. Deadline for accreditation is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17. |
