17 TEACHERS OF ENGLISH AND AMERICAN STUDIES TO ATTEND SEMINAR IN THE UNITED STATES

U.S. Ambassador John Herbst will greet 17 Ukrainian secondary school teachers chosen as national winners in the eighth annual U.S.-Ukraine Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) Program at a reception Friday, June 11. The winners will travel to the United States for a professional development course June 12 through August 5.

The reception in honor of the national winners, organized by American Councils: ACTR/ACCELS which administers the TEA Program in Ukraine, will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the restaurant of the Bratyslava Hotel, 1 Malyshko St. Press is invited to cover the event. The TEA program recognizes the finest Ukrainian teachers of English and American Studies for their leadership, professionalism, innovation, and for promoting and strengthening U.S.-Ukrainian ties. During the past seven years, 112 Ukrainian teachers visited the U.S to take part in such training. An additional 530 won computers and other technical aids for their schools and professional literature for themselves.

The national winners will attend a course at Montana State University in Bozeman. The program includes a week-long stay in Washington, D.C., to learn about the United States government and educational systems, as well as a visit to California State University at Chico for the Annual Conference “Celebrating Teaching Excellence Across Cultures.”
