ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI TO VISIT KYIV

Zbigniew Brzezinski, a counselor at the Center for Strategic & International Studies and a former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, will be in Kyiv on a private visit May 13-17.

While in Kyiv, Mr. Brzezinski will meet with senior government officials and members of Parliament, political parties, non-governmental organizations and media.

Dr. Brzezinski will deliver a speech, "Ukraine and the World," Friday, May 14 at 5 p.m. at Kyiv Mohyla Academy. Due to space constraints, coverage is limited to the first 20 media outlets who register. Press must register for the event by calling 490-4090 or 490-4129 no later than Friday, May 14 at noon. They should be in place no later than 4:45 p.m.

Dr. Brzezinski also will conduct a press conference Saturday, May 15, at 11 a.m. in the 4th floor conference room of the Embassy's Public Affairs Section at Artem Center, 4 Hlybochytska Street. Press must register for the event by calling 490-4090 or 490-4129 no later than Friday, May 14 at 5 p.m. Press should be seated by 10:45 a.m. and bring identification for security procedures.

Press also is invited to cover on Sunday, May 16, at 11 a.m., a wreath-laying and visit to Bykivnia Memorial, burial site of victims of Stalinist repression.

Zbigniew Brzezinski

Short Biography

Zbigniew Brzezinski a counselor and trustee for the Center for Strategic & International Studies. He is also the Robert E. Osgood Professor of American Foreign Policy at the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, Washington, D.C. He also serves as co-chair of the American Committee for Peace in Chechnya, and is a trustee of Freedom House and the Trilateral Commission (U.S.-Europe-Japan forum.) He is honorary chairman of the AmeriCares Foundation and is on the Board of Directors of the Polish American Freedom Foundation and the Polish American Enterprise Fund.

From 1977 to 1981, he served as National Security Advisor to the U.S. President Jimmy Carter. In 1981 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom “for his role in the normalization of U.S.-Chinese relations and for his contributions to the human rights and national security policies of the United States.”

A graduate of McGill and Harvard (PhD 1953,) Dr. Brzezinski is the author most recently of THE CHOICE: Global Domination or Global Leadership; THE GRAND CHESSBOARD: American Primacy and its Geostrategic Imperatives and THE GRAND FAILURE: The Birth and Death of Communism in the 20th Century. He also has writtenl many articles in numerous U.S. and foreign academic journals.
