Press and Information > Press Release Archive – May 25, 2001 U.S. EMBASSY SPONSORS FESTIVAL OF AMERICAN ORGANISTS The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the first festival of American organists at the National House of Organ and Chamber Music in Kyiv. Taking part in the May 26 to June 3 festival are four accomplished American organists, including Douglas Major, the chief organist and choirmaster at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. During his long career, Mr. Major has performed numerous solo recitals throughout the United States and overseas in France, Japan, and Taiwan. The three other organists are Gordon Turk, Merrill Davis and Brian Milinikel. All four will perform two concerts each in Kyiv. They are also scheduled to give additional concerts in Bila Tserkva and Kharkiv. Mr. Major’s opening night performances will be on May 26 and 27 in Kyiv. The festival organizer is the well-known Ukrainian organist Volodymyr Koshuba. The other sponsors are What’s On magazine, Music Radio, SAM Travel, and the Oleina Company.
