Harry Waters portraitThe U.S. Embassy in Kyiv is very pleased to be able to sponsor the visit to Ukraine of noted trombonist Mr. Harry Watters for performances in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, and Lviv. While in Kyiv, he will have public performances on Friday, October 8 and Sunday, October 10. On Friday evening at 8pm, Mr. Watters, together with Mrs. Holly Watters, a pianist, will present "The Great American Songbook" at the cafe "Kvartera" on Vulytsia Khoryva 1/2 (behind the Zhitny Market in Podil). On Sunday evening, he will jam with local jazz musicians at Art Club 44 on Khreschatyk at 10:00 pm. Admission is free to both events and no tickets are necessary.

Harry Watters is a New Orleans trombonist whose recordings include The Island of Dr. Trombone, Centaur Records' S'Wonderful: The Music of George Gershwin with arranger and conductor William Grimes, and Summit Records' Brothers, Brothers II & Brothers III with trumpeter Ken Watters. Watters has performed with Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Erich Kunzel, Shirley Jones, Peter Nero, Kevin Mahogany, Wycliffe Gordon, Joe Piscopo, Maureen McGovern, Bill Watrous, Carl Fontana, Jiggs Whiggam, Tom "Bones Malone" & James Moody.

A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Harry grew up in a musical family. His parents were accomplished musicians and Harry's brother Ken (also a Yamaha Artist) is an award-winning trumpeter based in New York City.

After graduation from the University of North Texas, Harry spent four years touring and recording with the Dukes of Dixieland. While working at night on Bourbon Street, a sleep-deprived Watters attended the University of New Orleans by day, serving as graduate assistant to Professor Ellis Marsalis.

Watters has performed with Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Erich Kunzel, Shirley Jones, Peter Nero, Kevin Mahogany, Wycliffe Gordon, Joe Piscopo, Maureen McGovern, Bill Watrous, Carl Fontana, Jiggs Whiggam, Tom "Bones Malone" & James Moody. Also, Harry has appeared as a featured soloist with the West Virginia Symphony, the Syracuse Symphony, the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Tulsa Pops, the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Janacek Philharmonic, the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, the Kishinev Festival Orchestra & the U.S. Army Orchestra.

Harry is constantly on the move as a Yamaha Artist. His clinic, "Power Practicing," has been presented at the University of North Texas, Southeastern Louisiana University, New Mexico State University, the University of Tennessee, East Carolina State University, the University of Central Florida, Virginia Commonwealth University, Louisiana State University and in high schools throughout the United States.
