According to an official statement by the Ukrainian Telecommunication Corporation "Ukrtelecom", effective February 3, 2009, the numbers for emergency and special service centers will be changed. This was also reported by the press service of the Emergency Ministry of Ukraine. All double-digit numbers are to be switched to the three-digit ones. For example, the number of the fire department will be switched from "01" to "101". Furthermore, the police number will be changed from "02" to "102", the ambulance service from "03" to "103", the Kyivgaz emergency service from "04" to "104", and the operator assistance number from "09" to "109."
To call emergency numbers from a land line or cellular phone (Kyiv Star, UMC, Bee-Line operators) you are advised to dial the following:
FIRE - 101 - instead of 01
POLICE - 102 - instead of 02
AMBULANCE - 103 - instead of 03
GAS - 104 - instead of 04
CITY BUSINESS DIRECTORY - 109 - instead of 09
