Second Passports
Current regulations prohibit the possession of more than one
valid, or potentially valid, passport at any one time unless under
circumstances specifically authorized by the Secretary of State. The
only justification considered for issuance of a second, valid
passport is an urgent need for international travel while the
bearer's full validity passport is frequently unavailable due to
visa processing at other embassies. Second Passports are limited to
a two-year validity only.
As of September 26, 2005, second passports are no longer
extendable. If you already have a second passport that is nearing
its expiration, you must apply for a new one by following the
instructions below. If you apply within one year of your passport"s
issuance, there will be no charge.
Note: You are required to present your current
full-validity passport to apply for a second passport. If you are
unable to do this because your passport is already being processed
for a visa at another office, you may not apply for a second
passport.
Application Requirements
- Your current full-validity U.S. passport: This will be
returned to you;
- A written request from your company explaining the need for
second passport;
- Passport
application form DS-82;
- Two identical 5x5 cm passport photographs: The Embassy will
reject any photographs that do not meet the specified
requirements. Vending machine photographs and photographs
printed on a home computer are unacceptable;
- Fees: The application fee is U.S. $75.00. The accepted payment
method is cash, U.S. dollars only.
Method of Application
You are required to apply for the passport in person at this
office within American Citizens Services Unit public working hours.
Processing Time
The application for a second passport will be sent to the United
States for printing with a secure, photo-digitized image of the
bearer. You should allow seven working days for your application to
be processed. When your new passport is ready, you will need to come
back to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy to pick it
up. |
